Charlie Charlie Challenge

I’m jumping right in today because I want people to be aware of the dangers associated with the “Charlie Charlie Challenge” #CharlieCharlieChallenge.

According to the Huffington Post, “Charlie Charlie Challenge is a social media attempt to summon a Mexican demon.” http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/7439434

This activity is popular with students and teens who are posting videos of their challenges to social media.

The article explains how it works and I’m posting this so parents and teachers can recognize it.

“The challenge is a cross between “Bloody Mary” and Ouija, and as the name suggests, involves summoning an entity named Charlie.

Here’s how it works: Take a piece of paper and draw a single horizontal line and a single vertical line that meet in the center. Put a “YES” in two opposing sections and a “NO” in the other two. Place two pencils across the middle of the drawing in a plus-sign formation, with one balanced atop the other so that it can spin.

Ask aloud, “Charlie, Charlie, are you there?” or “Charlie, Charlie, can we play?” and the top pencil will likely move at some point because of how it’s balanced. However, some players believe it’s a sign that “Charlie” is in the room and ready to take questions.”

So here are some thoughts to help believers address this issue.

Demons are real and dangerous.
The Bible is filled with examples of demonic activity and the dangers of dealing with them. In Acts 19:13-16 for example, a demon possessed man attacked seven men.

Demons are not our friends.
Our spiritual struggle as believers is against demons.
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. (‭Ephesians‬ ‭6‬:‭12‬ NKJV)

We shouldn’t seek demons.
‘Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God. (‭Leviticus‬ ‭19‬:‭31‬ NKJV)

Seeking demons makes us enemies of God.
Going to a psychic or medium to conjure up spirits of the dead is a sin. Being a psychic or a person who conjures spirits is also a sin.

‘And the person who turns to mediums and familiar spirits, to prostitute himself with them, I will set My face against that person and cut him off from his people. (‭Leviticus‬ ‭20‬:‭6‬ NKJV)

‘A man or a woman who is a medium, or who has familiar spirits, shall surely be put to death; they shall stone them with stones. Their blood shall be upon them.’ ” (‭Leviticus‬ ‭20‬:‭27‬ NKJV)

Seeking demons is an abomination.
God requires his people to seek him alone.

There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For all who do these things are an abomination to the LORD, and because of these abominations the LORD your God drives them out from before you. (‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭18‬:‭10-12‬ NKJV)

If you encounter people who are doing the Charlie Charlie Challenge here is how to address the issue:

1. Let them know demons are real.
2. Let the know demons are dangerous.
3. Let them know that God isn’t pleased. (It’s a sin.)
4. Let them know they should seek God’s forgiveness.
