Leading With Energy

If you show me your passion, I can find your energy.

When our son DeVonti was in kindergarten we gave him a birthday party and invited his cousins. His energy level went into a higher gear than normal. It wasn’t because of the cake or ice cream because he wouldn’t eat anything. He was passionate about having fun with his cousins. He was energized by fun.

“And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick. When it was evening, His disciples came to Him, saying, “This is a deserted place, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages and buy themselves food.” (Matthew 14:14, 15 NKJV)

When leaders aren’t passionate about their work or organizational goals it shows. They do just enough to get by. They settle to the level of mediocrity of those around them. They very seldom get the best out of their followers. They forfeit the miraculous for the mundane.

Jesus was energized by his compassion. His compassion put his leadership in another gear.
His leadership energy sets the tone and raises the bar for his disciples. Instead of cutting the ministry opportunity short and sending the people away, they regroup under Jesus’ leadership and feed five thousand. They had the energy to press through their own hunger to meet the needs of others. Their energy allowed them to participate in the miracle.

What passions in your work or leadership give you energy?
