“Now concerning the things of which you wrote to me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman.” (1 Corinthians 7:1 NKJV)
“but if they cannot exercise self-control, let them marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion.” (1 Corinthians 7:9 NKJV)
We live in a society that is always working to ignite our passions. Recently I saw a commercial for a frozen dinner product where a couple progressed to greater levels of romance while preparing their meal. They were literally using the idea of passion and romance to ignite viewers to buy an unhealthy, preservative laden, frozen, processed food product.
This type of marketing is in everything from music videos and commercials, to fashion styles that are more form fitting and revealing and restaurants with scantily clad waitresses. As a result, we’ve become desensitized to sexual morality and are accustomed to having our passions ignited all the time. Then we seek to fulfill those passions to relieve the burning.
God created passion and it’s good, but when passion is fulfilled outside of marriage, it’s not a part of His will for our lives. Husbands and wives should’nt venture outside of their covenant relationship to get their needs met. They should work together to meet those needs.
Singles should seek God’s will for their lives and marry rather than burn with passion. I know our popular culture glorifies the single life and the freedom and excitement of fulfilling our passions with a variety of people. But this lifestyle doesn’t glorify God and leaves men and women with regrets, serious consequences, and feelings of emptiness.
If you’ve never thought about it before, God is telling us in this passage that marriage is the solution. Why burn with passion and hope to “get lucky” when you can have a partner to share your passions every day? In marriage, if it’s done the way God describes it in 1 Corinthians 7:1-9, passion and physical intimacy become a part of the natural pattern of your lives together.
You are so correct. In a marriage both of you have to work hard to make it work. It is not easy to be married. The human part of you have you looking at someone else that you think look better, dress better and talk the way you wish your husband was. I would rather have some one that respect me and love me for you I am.
Pastor Manuel what a great article to speak about this Sunday Morning. Did’nt know that I would wake up and be confronted with such a specific message. This topic is a world-wide hurt of today, and God is using such messages to cause men and women, boys and girls to make wise decisions in these areas of our lives. Thank You and Be Blessed in your decision, every thought, and every word you speak.
